Show Your Ho-Ho-Holiday Spirit

A week of holiday fun awaits December 13 - 17. Students may dress down according to the schedule below. We will wrap up the week with our holiday parties on Friday from 2:00 - 2:45. Your child's classroom coordinator can answer questions about party plans.

  • Monday/Crazy Sock Day - Dress up your feet in socks with holiday colors or themes if you have them, otherwise all fun socks are welcome.

  • Tuesday/Holiday Colors Day - Get festive in your holiday colors of red, green, blue, and white.

  • Wednesday/Ugly Christmas Sweater Day - We'll all look silly together on Ugly Christmas Sweater day!

  • Thursday/Bells and Bling Day - Sparkle in your bells and bling.

  • Friday/Holiday Hat Day - Top off the week with holiday hats/headbands.

Share Your Thoughts On School Safety

Our School Accountability Committee (SAC) conducts a series of short parent surveys throughout the year to gather information and feedback on important school topics. This is the first of three mini-surveys they will send out this year, in addition to the larger end-of-year annual survey. At this time, they are gathering feedback on the physical safety, emotional well-being, and health of students while at school. There are only six questions, so it won't take long to complete. Please submit your survey by next Friday, December 17. Access the survey here.

A Cool Club For Girls Who Code

Girls Who Code is a FREE after-school computer science program for girls in grades 3 - 5. The group will meet for eight weeks on Thursdays from 3:05 - 4:00pm in Mrs. White's computer lab starting on January 20. Questions? Contact Mrs. White. Although the club is free, registration is required through My School Bucks. Once you are registered with PCK, Mrs. White will send you information about registering with Girls Who Code. There are a limited number of spots available, so sign up today!

Registration Is Now Open For "The Music Man"

You don't need 76 trombones to audition for our spring musical! Students in grades 7 and 8 can audition on December 13th and 14th via Google Meet. Those in 6th grade will primarily participate in the chorus, but may have opportunities for small solos etc., which will be assigned once the middle school casting is complete. Audition materials are available in Google Classroom, under classroom code: 5a2ah4v. Click here to sign up for an Audition time: https://calendly.com/kmyers-music/7th-and-8th-grade-character-auditions-2021

Rehearsals are in class during the elective time for 7th and 8th graders (following the green/yellow block rotation for leads and understudies, placed by Mrs. Myers) and after school for all cast members on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:00, starting on January 4th. Our Tech Crew will join the ensemble in February when we begin our full rehearsals. Additionally, there will be a couple of Saturday rehearsals, one in late February and one in March, with exact dates announced in January. Please make every effort to attend these rehearsals. They are essential for the students and help pull the show together, and they’re a lot of fun! Performances are April 15 and 16.

The registration fee of $125 pays for most of the costuming and other show expenses. To register, click here: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/prdembd?ref=ZZHVZS5TX305OUU_ZZ5T4Z3OULOR5KV

"The Music Man" is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI.) All authorize performance materials are also supplied by MTI. www. mtishows.com

Copy of Fall 2021 Creative Task Challenge

Congratulations, Coder!

PCK's 8th graders participated in Carnegie Mellon University's Creative Task coding competition. Creative Task offers our 8th graders an opportunity to apply the coding elements they have learned to a project of their own design. They may choose to create a scene, a simple game, an interactive experience, or anything else they can think of. It is a great way for students to showcase new skills they have learned at the end of each unit, and is also a way for them to spark a sense of what they can now create with code.

Josh Neill earned an Honorable Mention from CMU's computer science department for his amazing program consisting of over 1500 lines of code. His work is impressive considering this is an international competition that includes students in middle school through 12th grade. You can see his design on the right-hand side of the image above.

Congratulations Josh! We are #PCKproud of you!

Nominate A Special Staff Member

Character Connection

In the month of December, we are focusing on the character trait of honesty. We define honesty as being truthful in what I say and do. When I am being honest, I will tell the truth; play by the rules; not exaggerate the facts; admit when I am wrong; not take things that don't belong to me.

Congratulations to the following students who were recognized at last week's assembly for demonstrating outstanding character:

Addison H. - Responsibility, patience, dependability
Anayah W. - Thoroughness
Ansh P. - Respect, loyalty, compassion
Emma C. - Compassion, dependability
Halle J. - Courage, compassion, joy
Shaina C. - Respect, responsibility, ready to participate
Theo G. - Responsibility, enthusiasm
Zach L. - Responsibility, ready to participate, curiosity

Keep up the great work, character leaders!

Boys Volleyball Is Coming To PCK

Any boy in grades 6 - 8 who may be interested in trying out for PCK's volleyball team may attend an open gym after school until 4:30pm on Friday, January 7 and Friday, January 28. This is a great opportunity to practice before try-outs and ask questions about the team. Open gym sessions are free, but students must be registered on My School Bucks before attending. See this flyer for more information.

From The Foundation at PCK

The Annual Giving Campaign is off to a great start. So far we have raised $5,574! The campaign will go until January and will help fund our playground project. Our playground is 20 years old and needs an update.

In the past, thanks to your generous donations, the Foundation has been able to help fund other large projects like the elementary science lab, no touch hand washing stations in the lunchrooms, Chromebooks for students, teacher grants that supply money for classrooms items that aren’t otherwise covered in the budget, and so much more. None of this would be possible without the help of the PCK family. We appreciate you all more than you know!

Winter Mart Is A Big Hit

Students are having a great time shopping in our Winter Mart! Grades with a scheduled library time visit then, but students in all grades are welcome to shop when there isn't a class in the library, and many grade levels (including middle school) are able to shop during recess. Tonight the Mart is open late for those who attend Core Care Club. You can see the schedule of when classes visit the Mart, and when free times are available for students without library class. The Winter Mart is open through next Tuesday, December 14.

Stand Up For Safety

Thank you to Brian Benedict and Dev Purohit for being our Safety Dads this week. Our students love seeing dads here to keep our perimeter secure, help with lunch and recess, and assist with other activities as needed. Click here to learn more about being a Safety Dad or to sign up.

Thank You

Thank you to the Pettinato family for bringing in an assortment of yummy treats for our staff. You sure do take great care of us!

Thanks to the Buswell family for bringing in extra face masks, and to the Allen family for sending us plastic ware. We appreciate your generosity!
