From The Director

Ready, set…RUN! Tomorrow is the annual PCK Fund Run, and the kids are excited! The Fund Run kicks off our fundraising season here at PCK. The Foundation at PCK has three strategic fundraisers each year, and this one involves our kiddos. They find sponsors (grandparents, relatives, neighbors, etc.) who will support them lap by lap, and then they run…with each lap bringing in funds for our school! The students run with their classmates during PE class. They get to dress down, wear a Fund Run t-shirt, and have some fun…all the while, they are raising funds for special school programs and equipment. Teachers are also encouraged to run with their students and, who knows, I may even get out there and run myself! It’s all about fun and Funds! I hope you will help your student(s) contact relatives, neighbors, and even co-workers of yours to meet their fundraising goals. There are some GREAT prizes involved, and the kids are excited. I hope to see you outside around the field cheering us all on tomorrow!

I am always so appreciative of the Foundation’s commitment to helping us raise needed funds for all the ‘extras’ that make our school so special, and the PCK community’s willingness to participate in this endeavor. Carpool Is Getting Faster, But…

We can make our carpool process run even faster and more smoothly with these reminders:

  • Please be courteous, considerate, and patient with the other parents/drivers in our community. Everyone has the same goal during carpool – dropping off or picking up their children. We can all achieve that goal in a friendly way, with a smile and a kind wave. Please make sure you model the traits and behaviors that make us a National School of Character.
  • Please use the same loop to drop off in the morning and pick up in the afternoon – only use the north loop if the youngest child in your carpool is in kindergarten or first grade. In the afternoon, we can not have drivers wait on Centerpark Loop for the south 3:20 window. We need to follow all posted signs, including the “no stopping/standing/waiting” signs, so there is not room for south loop drivers to wait in the north loop.
  • Please do not come early. Cars are never allowed to stop on Pine Drive prior to our south carpool loop starting, and there are new signs limiting where you can stop on Centerpark Loop in our north loop. We must follow all posted traffic signs, so there is very limited space to wait before afternoon carpool begins. We are working with the county, as well as the Homeowners Associations of our neighbors, to find a solution to the situation on Centerpark Loop.
  • Remind your child to be ready to get out of the car as soon as you stop in the morning drop-off area.
  • Make sure your child can access the passenger side door. Double check that the child lock is off on that door.

Please share these reminders with anyone who might be driving your child to or from school.

Also, if you need to pick your child up early, we kindly ask that you do so by 2:45pm so we are not calling students out during our carpool dismissal period.


Mark Your Calendar

Please make sure your student is at school for the full day on Wednesday, October 2. This is our official “school count” day when our attendance record is submitted to the state to determine our per pupil funding. Please do not schedule appointments for your student on this day. It is very important that we have full attendance, unless your child is truly ill. Thanks for helping us get every dollar we can!


We Are Running Tomorrow

colorful shoe with words Run 4 FundsOur annual Fund Run is tomorrow! The Foundation at PCK hosts this fundraiser and works hard to make it a special event for our students. Kids need to wear their Fund Run shirts, loose-fitting shorts, and good shoes for running – no cleats of any kind are allowed. Water bottles and sunscreen are recommended since the forecast calls for a sunny 80 degree day. Information packets went home previously in Thursday folders, but you can check out our Run web page here. If you would like to come cheer on your runner, please allow extra time to check in at the front desk and get your Raptor name tag. If you have not yet checked in at our front desk this school year, remember to bring your drivers license.

The deadline for turning in donations has been extended! All donations are due to your child’s teacher on Monday, September 23 in the donation envelope you will receive (along with your student’s lap total) tomorrow. Prize day is Friday, September 27.

Our middle school students are not running, but they also have a dress down day on Friday!


Do You Have A Child Not Yet At PCK?

If your student has a sibling waiting for a spot at PCK, please make sure we have a letter of intent for that child. You can confirm this by checking your School Mint account (click here for School Mint – if you have never set up your login information you can do so by clicking the link and following the prompts). You can also contact Sara Mundt to see if we have your letter of intent and to confirm that we have the correct grade level or year your child will enter school.

Climbing High With Our Great Character!

Mrs. Myers is disappointed to learn she needs to be more honest with herself when deciding what to bring on the hike. She will need a sleeping bag, but will not need the cast iron skillet she tried to pack!

Last Friday we kicked off our 2019-20 Character Assemblies. Students in grades 1 – 4 (with kindergarten joining later in the year) enjoy a monthly skit in which Mrs. Myers and Mrs. Daniels are hikers spending the year climbing a mountain. Along the way they will encounter other hikers and challenging circumstances that illustrate different character traits. In September we are focusing on the trait of honesty, and our hikers learned to be honest with themselves when packing for the trip and deciding what they could realistically carry up the mountain. 

Students in 5th though 8th grade have discussion-based assemblies where they meet in small groups to talk about applications of the traits and how they use their character in daily life.

New Late Testing Lab Pick-Up Procedure

Students who miss tests and quizzes due to an absence need to come to the Late Testing Lab to make them up. The Late Testing Lab (LTL) is located in the Elementary Science Lab. The LTL runs from 3:00 to 3:45 every day. Students need to remain in the Lab until 3:45 even if they finish their test/quiz earlier. If they do not finish, they can come back to the lab on a second day. Mrs. Jenkins, the manager of the LTL, will bring students out to carpool at 3:45 on the South Loop (by the main entrance). You no longer need to park to collect your student. Please make sure you are there to pick your student up on time.


A Second Minecraft Club Starts Next Week

minecraft logoDue to high demand, we are opening a second day of Minecraft Club!  The second group will meet on Thursdays from 3:15 to 4:15 starting September 19th. We will have seven club meetings, with the last one on Thursday, November 7th. The club meets in Mrs. Henderson’s tech lab and is for students in grades 2 – 5. Registration is $40 and must be completed by September 16.

If you are already signed up for the Tuesday club, do not sign up for the Thursday club as well. Students may only participate once a week. If you sign up for both days your payment for the second day will be refunded. Contact Mrs. Henderson if you have any questions about the club.


High School Information Night Is Coming

Middle school students and their parents are invited to attend our High School Information Night on Wednesday, October 2 from 6:00 – 7:30pm in the Middle School Commons. This is an opportunity to meet representatives from area high schools and learn what each school has to offer. You won’t want to miss it!


Bullying vs Normal Peer Conflict

arrows form a circleOur 2019-20 Parent Education Series continues at 6:30 on Thursday, October 3 with a session called Bullying vs Normal Peer Conflict: What’s The Difference and What Should Parents Do. In this session, you will learn how to tell when your child is developing/practicing normal conflict resolution skills and when there is something more serious going on. You will also learn how to guide and support your child through both types of scenarios.

Please note our Parent Education Series sessions are for parents only, and childcare is not provided.

To access our directory, search for Directory On Tap and install the latest app update on your mobile device from the App Store or Google Play Store. Open the app and click RESET PASSWORD. Your account has already been set up so there is no need to create an account. You will be prompted for a one-time code that will be emailed to you after you click Reset Password. If you do not receive the code immediately in your Inbox, please check your spam folder. When setting your password, please enter your email in lower case as the user ID. The password must be a minimum of 6 characters.

Lost And Found

lost and foundIf your child comes home without a jacket, lunchbox, water bottle, or other item, there is a good chance it is in our lost and found. Please make sure ALL items that come to school are labeled with your student’s first and last name. Also, please have your student come claim any lost items as soon as possible. Anything remaining in the lost and found on the last day of each month will be donated to charity.


Calling All Teachers

We are looking for substitute teachers. A teaching certificate is preferred but is not required for those with teaching experience. If you would like more information about this opportunity, please contact Heather Newbrough. You can apply on the PCK website.


Thank You, Safety Dads!

Mr. LaGrange made a great goalie for a third grade soccer game while serving as our Safety Dad.

Thank you to the dads who volunteered to Stand Up For Safety as our Safety Dads this week: Nathan Gandolph, Kiley Grant, Daniel Chapman, Mark Steinbeck, and Juan Cardoso.

We are asking all PCK dads to join us one day per year during the school week to provide an added layer of protection while students are in school.

Our new elementary science lab is a big hit with our students. If you would like to get involved, there are several ways you can help.

Our live plants and animals need caring for, so if you’d like to help in this way, you can volunteer for Science Lab Care.

Science can be messy, so we need help with Science Lab Laundry

If you are knowledgeable about sprinklers or irrigation, please contact our elementary science teacher, Misty Jenkins. We need some irrigation in our lab. Thanks!


Giving Thanks On 9/11

Three PCK students helped the Cherry Creek Valley Rotary Club deliver breakfast burritos from Casa Mariachi to the Parker Police Department on Wednesday to thank the officers for their service. Payton Marsh, Lillian Marsh, and Jack Brokken did this as a way of saying thank you to first responders in honor of those who served at ground zero.
