From The Director

Dear PCK Parents,

I am looking forward to seeing you all at one of our (4) Back-to-School Nights this week and next. Teachers are also looking forward to telling you all about their plans for their students in the coming year. Each of our four nights include both a classroom and general parent session, so please allow time for both. This is our one big opportunity to meet together as partners and get focused for the year ahead. I am excited to share our priorities for the year, information about how we keep our students safe throughout the year, and some FANTASTIC results from our spring CMAS assessments. Finally, several of our key parent groups will be onsite to provide information and opportunities for you to get involved here at PCK.

Tonight, for grades 5-8, we will start with a general session in the Sports Gym, but next week we will begin with a classroom session, followed by a general session, and then another classroom session (for families with students in grades 3 & 4 and 1 & 2). Kindies will have their own session next Thursday evening that will include a special literacy event for parents, as well as general and classroom sessions.

Thank you for making it a priority to attend one of the general sessions (they are all the same) in the coming days, as well as one classroom session for each of your children.

See you soon,

Mrs. Aplin

Back To School Nights

Our Back To School Night events are an opportunity for parents to hear what is happening at the school, the goals our Board set for the year, and expectations from our teachers. This event is designed for parents only, so students need other fun things to do that night. Please come for an informational general session from our administration and a classroom session from your child’s teacher on the following dates:

Grades 5 – 8: Tonight, August 22, 5:30 – 7:30 pm in the Sports Gym (in the 5th/6th grade building behind the main building)
Grades 3 – 4: August 27
Grades 1 – 2: August 28
Kindergarten: August 29.

Parents of students in kindergarten through 4th grade should watch for an email with more details. We are looking forward to seeing all parents at Back To School Night!

Hands On Science Learning Is Ready To Go

Our new garden and chicken coop, which are part of the science lab initiative, are ready for students and chickens! A huge thank you to Ethan Boehle for organizing and executing the construction of our garden as part of his Eagle Scout Project. Our Elementary Science Teacher, Misty Jenkins, has also been a tireless contributor to the creation of the lab. We can’t wait to put these new tools to use.

Important Carpool Safety Note

Please remember to stay in your car throughout the entire carpool process, even when you are waiting in line. This is an important part of keeping everyone safe. Please also be courteous to the other parents in our PCK community, especially in these first few weeks when those new to our carpool process are learning what to do.

Homework Help Is Available After School

If your student needs some extra support with homework, PCK’s middle school National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is here to help.

For students in kindergarten through 4th grade, NJHS members are available from 3:15 – 4:15pm to help with organization, completion of homework, and studying for tests. To register, send an email to njhs@ckcs.net with your child’s name and the days of the week your student is available. The cost is $10 per session, cash only.

Our 5th through 8th grade students can get help from Mrs. Bender or Mrs. Harper every Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:15 – 4:45. Students may stay for whatever portion of this time works with their schedules. Theses sessions are purchased through the PCK Web Store for $15 each, or you can buy a bundle of 12 sessions for $150. Contact Laurie Bender or Stephanie Harper with any questions.

Theater Costume Coordinator Needed

Our theater department is looking for a costume coordinator for both our fall and spring shows. This person is an important part of our production team, and is primarily responsible for organizing and keeping track of the costumes assigned to each actor. This person also needs to be available to help the students the week of each show and during performances. The ability to sew is helpful but not required. There is a small stipend available for this position. Please contact Krystal Myers if you have questions or are interested.

Being A Soccer Referee Is A Kick!

Our Athletic Department needs a boys soccer referee for the fall season. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact Mr. Cruz for more information.

Our Middle School boys soccer team will allow some 6th grade boys to try out for the team. Please contact Mr. Cruz if interested.

Unfortunately, our fall cross country season has been cancelled.

News From Our PTA

Thank you to all of our volunteers! We appreciate you so very much and couldn’t do any of our events without you.

Our next meeting is September 10 at 6:30pm in Middle School Commons. All PCK parents are welcome to come find out what the PTA is all about and how to get involved.

Our first Spirit Night is at Swirls on Mainstreet in Parker on Tuesday, August 27 from 4 – 9pm. Make sure to mention PCK to the cashier so the school receives a portion of the proceeds.

Save the date! Our Fall Festival is September 28 from 12:00 – 3:00pm. Be on the lookout for a Sign Up Genius with volunteer opportunities coming soon.

Be sure to check out our new Spirit Wear for adults. These items are fun to wear to school events, sports games, or just around town!

Stay Connected With Directory On Tap

Our handy on-line directory is managed by Directory On Tap (DOT). This is an easy way to get in touch with the parents of other students to arrange play dates, carpools, and more. The information published in the Directory includes the parent names, student name(s), phone number, address, and email you gave when registering for the school year. If you do not want to be included in the directory, you may opt out here. If you choose to opt out, you must complete the form by Friday, August 30. The directory includes an alphabetized list of all PCK families, as well as class rosters, and will be available in early September.
