From The Director
Dear PCK Parents,
Thank you for supporting our teachers! They are truly the unsung heroes of our day, and our students learn, grow and blossom under their instruction and care every day. I could not be prouder of the dedicated team of teachers and support staff we have on staff at PCK. I see their passion for learning, and their desire to instill that passion in our students. I know how hard they work, and I know something about the personal sacrifices of time, schedule, effort, and, yes, sometimes money they willingly make in order to serve their students. Teachers are some of the most selfless people you will ever meet. I also know that here at PCK, they benefit greatly from (and appreciate more than you know) the constant show of support, encouragement and flat out generosity of PCK parents and families. We are, and always have been, a team. Like any successful team, we work together to ensure our students have what they need academically, socially, emotionally, and even facility-wise. That’s what teams do…they work together…and today of all days, I am both happy and proud to be a part of Team PCK!
The events of the day down at the state Capitol have put teachers and schools, schools and districts, and parents in a very tough spot. Our decision to remain open today was, in some respects, an easy one…it’s kids first! The staff is here today because we believe our students deserve, and our parents expect, school to remain open. However, this decision does not in any way imply that we do not support the need for more funding in K-12 across the State of Colorado. We ABSOLUTELY do! In fact, I strongly encourage all PCK families to contact our state legislators and let them know how you feel about the current funding level for K-12 education in Colorado. We can make our collective voices heard on this issue and remain open for business today…this is what we chose to do. I respect everyone’s right to make their own choice in this matter.
Congratulations To Our Apple Award Nominees
Every year, the Douglas County School District honors outstanding teachers and staff members with the Apple Awards. David Goode (middle school humanities teacher) and Sara Mundt (Student Services Specialist) were the nominees from PCK, and they were celebrated at the Apple Awards ceremony last Saturday. Congratulations, Mr. Goode and Miss Sara, and thank you for doing such an amazing job for our students!
Also, PCK parent and Sagewood Middle School Principal, Danny Windsor (pictured in the middle) was recognized as Administrator Of The Year for all of Douglas County. Congratulations, Mr. Windsor!

The FunD Run Is Tomorrow!
Thank you for supporting your students and encouraging them in their fundraising. This year’s school-wide goal is only $75 per student, but each student set a personal prize goal on the pledge sheet that went home last week. Is your child excited to have reached that goal?
At tomorrow’s FunD Run:
- Students will run/walk as many laps as they can around the fun track in their 30 minute run slot. The track is 1/16 of a mile (16 laps =1 mile). Students average 25-30 laps with a 50 lap max.
- You are welcome to come out and cheer your students on.
- Please remind your child to wear loose fitting clothes, running shoes and plenty of sunscreen. Don’t forget a water bottle!
- Lap totals are marked on their t-shirts. Collection Envelopes will come home today for pledge collection.
All pledges are due on May 4 (please remember there is no school on May 4, so cash and check pledges in collection envelopes need to be turned in to a teacher by May 3).
Prize Day is May 25. This is a really fun day and our students are always excited for the prize parties. Please continue to help your child(ren) by sponsoring them for the PCK FunD Run and helping them find other sponsors like grandparents, aunts and uncles, neighbors, and family friends.
You can still go to r4funds.com/parker to easily send out emails to potential sponsors, make online pledges and check online totals. User name: core, Password: cougar. Checks should be made payable to The Foundation at PCK.
Check out the back of the pledge sheet and the website for the cool prizes that your child(ren) can earn!

Volunteers Needed For PCK International Festival
PCK is excited to host an International Festival on Friday, May 18, from 1:30-6:00 p.m. to celebrate many of the cultures that are represented in our school community (Mexico, India, Egypt, Russia, China, Korea, Scotland, Spain, Argentina, Peru, and Australia). We are looking for parent volunteers who would like to share their culture, food, and authentic items with our students and parents. If you have a connection to one of these countries and are interested in being a parent volunteer for this event, please contact one of the teachers in the Spanish Department, Mrs. Obregon, Ms. Carmona, or Mrs. Thompson.
Our Lost and Found Is Full Again
Please stop by our lost and found to see if anything that belongs to your family is there. Our main Lost and Found is just inside the entrance near the Events Gym, but we also have lost and found locations in the middle school and in the 5th/6th grade area.
Congratulations PCK Athletes
4th grader Lucas Bennett plays on the 2007 Real Boys National soccer team. Last weekend they beat the Colorado Rapids 5-2 in the State Cup Final, earning them the title of #1 in the state! We are especially proud to hear about the excellent sportsmanship the team demonstrated. Way to go!
6th grade gymnast Ashlyn Pengilly competed in the Colorado State USAG meet last weekend and earned the highest bars score out of 61 girls, with a 9.725. It not only earned her 1st place, but it was her personal best score of the season as well. She also won 1st place on vault and 4th place on floor, making her the 3rd place All Around Colorado USGA XCEL Gold State Champion. She also qualified for regionals in Galveston, TX. We know an accomplishment like this takes a tremendous amount of hard work, focus, and dedication. Great job, Ashlyn!
The Art Department would like to thank our small team of parent volunteers who stepped up to plan, make and create several classroom art projects for the Gala. This was a big project and we are so grateful.
