From The Director
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
Never were there truer words than these! Here at PCK, we are very blessed to have so many parents who eagerly embrace their annual volunteer commitment, and for this I am always thankful.
The PCK Board has made it an explicit goal this year to boost volunteerism here at PCK. Many, many families give over and above the twenty-hour/family/year commitment, but we can still do better…after all, we’re PCK, right?! With a goal of 100% parent participation, I am asking the following of all PCK families:
- Please make a plan (you can use our volunteer planning form) for how you will meet or exceed your 20-hour volunteer commitment this year
- Please complete the volunteer interest survey so that we can better direct specific volunteer opportunities your way based on your expressed interests.
Once we have collected parent interests, we will identify a coordinator for each interest group and that person will be the one to reach out to you whenever a need arises within your volunteer interest area. This will help increase the visibility of volunteer opportunities and, hopefully, increase the likelihood you find plenty of ways to plug in.
Thank you, in advance, for making volunteerism a priority this year by making a volunteer plan and completing our volunteer interest survey. The heart of our parent volunteers is truly a beautiful thing. Thank you!
Dress Down Fundraiser Tomorrow
Tomorrow students may dress down for a donation of $1 or more. All donations will go to the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Michael. Donations will be collected at the doors tomorrow morning. This fundraiser was organized by Aanya Shah, a PCK 4th grader. What a great way to show the character traits of compassion and initiative, Aanya!
Get Ready To Smile on Monday
Monday, October 22nd is picture retake and class picture day. If you were unhappy with your child’s picture, please return your proof to your child’s teacher on or before Monday and we will make sure he/she is photographed on the 22nd. Because we are taking class pictures as well, please have your child dress in uniform.
If you would like to purchase the class picture for $10.00, please place your online order by Monday the 22nd.
Google Classroom for Parents
Our Google Classroom for Parents session is tonight, October 18 at 6:30 pm in Lisa Church’s 2nd grade classroom. You have probably heard your child mention Google Classroom, but you may not know how students and teachers use it at PCK. Mrs. Church is a Google Certified Educator, and she will help you navigate the technology your child will use throughout his/her PCK career, including the Google Suite. If you have a personal laptop, please bring it for a hand-on experience.

Changes to the PCK Calendar
We’ve recently moved our calendars to Google Calendar. Our old calendar system is no longer supported or updated, so when dates change they will not be reflected on the old calendar. Please use the calendar on the home page of the PCK website to check for dates and events. You will see links to the Events Calendar and the Sports Calendar. You may subscribe to these calendars to receive automatic updates in your own Google calendar. If you have an old calendar link, please stop using it today and delete the link. We also have future school year calendars posted on the home page of the school website, so please check these when making vacation or travel plans.

Send In Your Poster For Veteran’s Day
Before Fall Break, posters titled “My Hero Is” went home in Thursday Folders. This poster gives students an opportunity to introduce a friend or family member who served in the United States military to our PCK family. Please help your child fill out the poster, color the two pictures at the top, and attach a photo or draw a picture on the bottom. Return your poster to the PCK front desk or to Mrs. Daniels by October 31.
Can You Help With Our Veteran’s Day Event?
Veteran’s Day is a big deal at PCK! We set aside a special morning to honor those who have served our country, and to hear from them about their experiences in the military.
We are looking for many volunteers to help make our Veteran’s Day event a success. Please see the attached Sign Up Genius to see how you can help.
If there is a Veteran in your family, or a family friend, who would like to come to PCK for our Veteran’s Day event on Friday, November 9, please RSVP to Dianne Daniels. Include the name of the Veteran and the number of people coming to the event. A light breakfast will be served at 8:00am, followed by an all-school assembly at 8:30. Veterans who would like to visit a classroom to talk for about 10 minutes on their service experience, and perhaps share a piece of equipment or special keepsake from their time of service, are invited to do so following the assembly. If your Veteran would like to visit a classroom, please sign up here.

Plans Are Underway For the International Festival
PCK’s International Festival Planning Committee is seeking cultural entertainment for our International Festival on March 8, 2019. If you are involved with or know of a dance/musical group that might be interested in performing here at PCK on the 8th, please contact Kristi Resler at email@example.com. We are looking for 3-4 small groups of dancers or musicians to provide short performances for our students and families. Each group would perform once at a designated time during the Festival.
Additionally, we are seeking PCK parents willing to host a ‘country booth.’ Each booth will feature a different country, and include information, artifacts, costumes/traditional dress, and food samples. A 7th grade student will be assigned to each booth to partner with the parent volunteer, and these students will research and create the educational presentation for their assigned country. If you would like to host a booth, please RSVP to Kristi Resler @ firstname.lastname@example.org by November 16th.

– Wondered who your child sits with at lunch?
– Wished you could get a sneak-peek at your child during the day?

If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then we have the answer for you! Our hot lunch provider, Wholesome Food Services, is hiring lunch servers for PCK. If you would love to work at the school during lunch, this is a great opportunity. Please contact Kathy Keithline at kathy@
