From the Director

The 2016-17 school year is off to a GREAT start!  The students, both new and returning, had a busy first day yesterday, but everyone looked rested and ready for another year of learning.  We kicked off our first day with an all-school assembly, and introduced all of our new staff.  Students then rotated through various areas of the school and reviewed appropriate procedures and expected behaviors. Carpool was, as expected, a bit sluggish as students (and parents) re-orient to the pick-up process and, in some cases, a new pick-up time and/or location.  Thank you for your patience as we get our carpool process going again for the new year.  Before you know it, it will be functioning as smoothly and efficiently as always.

Just a few business items to highlight as the new year kicks off:
1.  Carpools are strongly encouraged.  The more carpools we have, the fewer cars in our carpool, and the faster it goes.  If you need help finding a carpool, please see the information listed below regarding Way to Go carpooling service and RTD options.  If you still need more help please contact Sandy Higgins, our carpool coordinator.
2.  The metro district adjacent to our property has hired a Douglas County Sheriff to patrol the Lincoln Creek development.  They are (and have been) concerned about the speeds around Center Park Look, the blocking of driveways, and drivers in their neighborhood who don’t obey traffic signs.  Please be aware the officer is there, and remember it is for everyone’s safety.  We now have a few students who walk to school from this neighborhood and we want to keep everyone safe.
3.  Back-to-school Nights come up quickly in August. This is an important night for all parents to attend as it allows you the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and hear more about what’s in store academically for your child in the coming year.  Additionally, our general parent session in the gym is the one time each year that I have the opportunity to share our goals for the coming year, new/exciting projects and/or priorities on the horizon, and any other relevant changes impacting our school.  Please plan to attend. Information regarding dates and times of each Back-to-school Night to follow shortly.
4.  As I watch the afternoon clouds roll in, I want to remind all parents that we cannot run our regular carpool process if there is significant bad weather (specifically heavy rain and lightening) in the near vicinity.  If we must delay carpool, it pushes everything back, and your patience is most appreciated.  If you or your child has a pressing appointment during a weather event, please know that you may park and come into the school to check out your student(s).  Understandably, we cannot accommodate ALL parents this way.  We will always release a child to their parents, even in bad weather.
Finally, as I like to do every year, I want to extend an invitation to ALL parents to come in and meet with me should you have any school related issues/concerns.  It is our goal each year to nip issues in the bud before they become larger, more difficult issues to resolve.  Please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Harth or me with your concerns.
Again, welcome back for another wonderful year at PCK.  We have some exciting news to share with you shortly!
Warmly,
Mrs. Aplin
P.S. I  will be holding a New Family Orientation next Tuesday, August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. here at the school.  Please join us for this informal question/answer time – I would love to get to know all of you.
