Dress Code

In accordance with the Charter Application approved by the Douglas County School District for the Parker Core Knowledge Charter School, a dress code has been established to minimize economic and competitive differences among students. All students will be required to wear a specified school uniform.  Dennis Uniforms and Lands' End has been chosen as our suppliers. To avoid dress code violations, it is recommended that uniforms be purchased through these suppliers. Parker Core Knowledge Charter School embroidered sweatshirts and polos can be purchased through the school P.T.O. Order forms are in the office.

In addition to the specified clothing, a neat appearance is compulsory. The following guidelines have been established:

  1. A minimum amount of jewelry is acceptable. Girls may wear one pair of small post earrings. For safety reasons, no rings or dangling or hoop-style earrings are allowed. Boys may not wear earrings. Nose rings are not allowed. One necklace may be worn inside the blouse or shirt. A bracelet may also be worn.

  2. Hair must be kept neat and groomed. Boys' hair cannot be longer that below the shirt collar and may not be worn in a ponytail or rattail.

  3. Only coordinating hair accessories in the prescribed school uniform colors of forest green, navy blue, white, yellow or light blue may be worn. Headbands, ribbons and scrunchies in the specified colors are also permitted. The Christopher plaid hair accessories sold at the Denver Uniform Store are also permitted as are gold and silver barrettes. No beads, yarn or fabric strips may be braided into hair.

  4. In addition to the specified Dennis uniform tops, students may also wear the Dennis uniform sweater or the embroidered "Core Knowledge Charter School" sweatshirt or polo purchased through the PTO. Sweatshirts may not be worn without an approved uniform shirt underneath. Sweatshirts need to be the correct size for the student, and not oversized. Jackets, hats and any other sweatshirts may not be worn in class except on designated dress down days.

  5. Shoes must be as specified and in a matching pair. No sandals or open-toe shoes are permitted. All shoes except saddle shoes must be a solid color with the same color trim and laces. Black, brown (all shades), navy blue, or white oxfords, loafers and black and white saddle shoes are permitted. Shoe soles may be any of the mentioned solid colors and do not have to be the same color as the shoe top. Low-cut, ankle-high and high-top tennis shoes in the specified solid colors are also allowed. Leather ankle-high shoeboots in the specified colors are also permitted. Logos are allowed only if the logo is the same color as the shoe or if the logo can be covered or colored to match the shoe. To receive an exemption regarding footwear, the student must present a signed letter from a medical doctor.

  6. Socks must be worn in a coordinated color with the school uniform and worn in a matching pair of the same color. No leggings are permitted, Spandex or otherwise.

  7. Shirts and blouses must be tucked into pants, shorts or skirts to maintain a neat appearance at all times.

  8. A black, brown or navy belt must be worn if pants have belt loops.

  9. Only clear nail polish may be worn.

  10. Only light, natural looking make-up may be worn in grades 6 ˇ 8. No make-up may be worn by students in grades K - 5.

  11. Dress code requirements for "Dress Down Days" have also been established. These requirements are following.

DRESS CODE ENFORCEMENT POLICY
(Revised 7/28/95)

Compliance with the dress code is mandatory. Violations of the dress code will result in disciplinary actions against the student in the following manner:

If a student arrives at school improperly dressed, a conduct mark is given and the violation is noted on the attendance sheet. The school office will call the parents notifying them of the dress code violation per the attendance sheet and ask to bring the proper article of clothing to school if possible.

After repeated offenses, the director will schedule a conference with parents to discuss the infractions and to seek a remedy to the problem. Further action will be taken if necessary.
