Students attending Parker Core Knowledge Charter School must maintain a decorum of behavior that is polite, respectful, and compliant to school regulations. Courtesy toward classmates, teachers, staff and visitors is imperative in order to achieve an effective educational environment. Categories of infractions that will subject a student to disciplinary action are as follows:
Classroom disruption, aggressive actions, disregard of school regulations, damage of private and school property through misconduct, or dress code violations. It is unacceptable to bring toy guns, toy knives and the like to school.
Possible discipline: Conduct mark, loss of special privileges such as recess, parental notification, or time out. (See CONDUCT MARKS following)
Assault of any person, student, staff, teacher, or visitor, willful destruction of personal and /or school property, excessively abusive or profane language, cheating or theft.
Discipline Action: Referrals to the Director are cumulative for the entire school year. All referrals will be completed and forwarded to the parent for their review and signature.
- After one referral possible consequences include school service activities, detention, suspension, and expulsion. The consequence will be at the discretion of the director, depending upon the problems and needs of the student and the severity of the infraction.
- After two referrals a possible suspension. Each suspension will last from one to five days.
- After three referrals a possible suspension. Each suspension will last from one to five days.
- After four referrals a possible expulsion. A student must have two suspensions before being expelled. The expulsion may be appealed in writing to the Operating Council. The District appeals process will be followed. If expulsion is upheld through the appeal process, the expulsion is from all Douglas County schools.
Excessive violence, threatening behavior, illegal or dangerous activities.
Discipline Action: Mandatory expulsion, notification of law enforcement authorities, and written parental notification.
Suspension/Expulsion: Further disciplinary action may require temporary or permanent removal of a student from the school. Suspension or expulsion may result from continued violations or major infractions. The term of the suspension or expulsion will be determined by the severity and/or recurrence of the infractions. Expulsion may be applicable for extremely serious major infractions or for continued infractions that have resulted in many suspensions. Violation of certain state, county or city laws may also be grounds for expulsion. The consideration of any expulsion will be referred to the Operating Council.
It is the sincere desire of the CKCS staff to provide a safe, caring environment conducive to learning. Behavior that is not conducive to this will not be tolerated. It is our goal to allow our students to learn in an atmosphere of safety and mutual respect. All referrals will carried over to continuous years at CKCS and dealt with on an individual basis.
CONDUCT MARKS
Disruption, disrespect and dress code are also areas in which lower grades receive conduct marks. Each classroom teacher sets guidelines for class expectations. A conduct sheet noting infractions, is sent home each Thursday. Multiple infractions may result in a referral to the director, as does any serious infraction such as defiance or endangerment.
Conduct marks will be given for classroom disruption, aggressive actions, disregard of school regulations, damage of private and school property, profane language, or dress code violations. It is unacceptable to bring toy guns, toy knives and the like to school.
Discipline Action: A conduct mark will be given with written notification to parents sent home that same day. Parent or guardian must sign and return the notice to school the following morning. If the notification is not returned the next morning, the student must call his/her parents form the director's office and return the note the next day.
Conduct marks are cumulative each school quarter, therefore the student has zero conduct marks at the beginning of each quarter.
- After three conduct marks the student will serve a 30 minute detention and the teachers may withhold field trip privileges. 24 hour parental notification will be given prior to serving the detention.
- After six conduct marks the student will serve a 60 minute detention and conference must be scheduled with student, parents, teacher, and director to discuss the behavior and develop a plan.
- After nine conduct marks the student will get a referral to the Director. The Director will meet with the parents and determine if detention, suspension or other discipline is necessary.
