From The Director

What could be more fun than a Fall Festival?  I am really looking forward to the PTA’s annual Fall Festival this Saturday from 12-4 p.m. here at PCK.  This fun event offers something for the entire family, and it’s a great way to connect with the rest of the PCK community.  From pumpkins, food, and games, to bounce houses and face painting, there will surely be something for everyone this Saturday.  And, don’t forget to stop by the Drench a PCK Staff Member booth…I will be there at some point in the afternoon, along with other brave PCK staffers, just waiting for you to test your ball throwing skills (can I bring my umbrella?).  All money raised at this particular booth will be donated to a worthy cause at some point in the year.  I hope to see you all ‘out back’ for some fall fun this Saturday! If you’d like to get in some early volunteer hours by helping at the event, please contact Jennifer Maxwell, PTA Vice President, at jen.maxwell11@gmail.com.  She’ll be happy to get you plugged in.

Lost and Found Donation Tomorrow

Please stop by our Lost and Found before the end of the day tomorrow. Unclaimed items will be donated. We do our best to return all labeled items to their owners.

Carpool Tip Of The Week

image of a red carPlease have your students at school no later than 7:55 am. Class starts promptly at 8:00, so kids need time to get out of the car, walk to their classrooms, unpack their backpacks, and get ready for class to begin. Please allow time for traffic and other unexpected delays. If you arrive at school at 8:00 or later, you must park and come to the front desk to sign your child in for the day.

Don’t Miss The Fall Festival This Weekend

image of a pumpkinOur Fall Festival is this Saturday, September 29th from 12:00-4:00 pm. Tickets will be available at the event (online tickets sales have closed). Please note: the food trucks will be accepting their own payments this year, so bring money if you would like to purchase food. Tickets will be used for games, inflatables, caramel apples, cake walks, and face painting. The Drench A Staff Member booth will be cash only, with all money donated to charity.

Volunteers make this event a success, so please check out the Sign Up Genius to see how you can help.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0444a8a829a0fb6-fall

We also need baked goods and candy donations. Sign up to bring these items here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0444a8a829a0fb6-fall1

Hearing And Vision Screening is October 1

image of an eye chart and headphonesEvery year, Douglas County performs state-mandated hearing and vision screening for all students in grades K, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, as well as all new students. This screening only identifies significant issues with a student’s vision or hearing, and should not replace a professional screening, especially if your student is experiencing any trouble with hearing or seeing. If your student wears glasses, please make sure your student has them at school on October 1, as they will be worn during the screening. To get more information, please click here.

Changing The Digital Culture In Our Homes

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office does regular presentations through their Y.E.S.S. (Youth Eduction and  Safety in Schools) program. These free presentations are always informative and are very popular.

The next one, Changing the Digital Culture In Our Homes, is October 16 at the Charles Schwab location in Lone Tree. Click here for details and registration information. This session covers social media, developing a sense of balance and moderation in device use, tools and resources for parents, and more.

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will be seeing the student version of this presentation in health class, so when you see the parent version you will be better able to discuss these important topics with your student.

High School Information Night Is October 17

Parker Core Knowledge is hosting our annual high school information night for 6th – 8th grade students and their families on Wednesday, October 17 from 6:30pm – 7:30pm. Representatives from area high schools including local, private, and alternative high schools will be on hand to provide information and answer questions about their respective schools. Students and parents are encouraged to attend together in order to explore the various high school options. This is annual event has been very informative for our families as they begin exploring high school choices.

Volunteer Opportunities

Mrs. Aplin is seeking volunteers for the following two school needs:

  1.  Marketing committee – seeking parents who currently work in marking, or have marketing, PR, or social media promotion experience. Volunteers will help create a school-wide marketing campaign, establish a more cohesive online marketing presence, and devise other marketing opportunities within the Parker community that will benefit PCK. Meetings will be monthly throughout the school year starting October 16, 8:00 – 9:00 am. If interested, please email Mrs. Aplin at taplin@ckcs.net.
  2.  School Accountability Committee (SAC) – the PCK SAC is looking for 1-2 additional parents to serve on this committee. SAC members provide parent perspective, assist with soliciting feedback from the PCK community, and make recommendations to Admin regarding school programs, facility improvements, and safety. Meetings are every other month throughout the school year starting October 17 from 8:30 – 10:00 am. If interested, please email Mrs. Aplin at taplin@ckcs.net.

Get The New Infinite Campus App

At PCK, we use Infinite Campus (IC) to keep parents and students informed of assignments, homework, grades, attendance, and much more. The new IC app makes it even easier to keep in touch through your mobile device. If you have the old IC app, it will no longer be supported so you will need to download the new one through your Apple or Google Play Store.

The Book Fair Is Coming!

Not only do our students love the Book Fair, but parents love it too since it is an easy way to do some early holiday shopping! However, it takes many volunteers to pull of a successful Fair. Please see the link below to sign up for volunteer shifts. Mrs. Zellner is also in need of someone to open the Book Fair at 9:00am October 18, 19, 22, 23, 24, and 25. If you’re interested in opening the Book Fair, please contact her at lzellner@ckcs.net.

Come See Our Preschool Outdoor Classroom

Through the generosity of our PCK Preschool & Junior Kindergarten families, over $20,000 was raised for a Preschool Outdoor Classroom. Tricia Calandra, PCK parent and architect, drew up the amazing plans. JC Landscaping did a beautiful job building the stairs, walls, columns, and sensory path that the children love to explore. The play kitchen was designed and built by Cory Jackson, another PCK Preschool parent and architect. Dave and Briann Lewis volunteered many hours to create the Lewis Sound Garden with pots, pans, cookie cutters and much more, where children can make their own music. Ben Eggleston, Joe Cocco, Dave Lewis, and Natalie Meyer all volunteered alongside Mrs. Resler and her family, Ms. Haines, Mrs. Haithcoat, and Mrs. Sadler to ensure the Outdoor Classroom was ready for the first day of school. The entire project could not have been accomplished without the Preschool community coming together!

9NEWS heard about our Outdoor Classroom and recently filmed Mrs. Haithcoat’s class planting irises donated by the Lewis family. The story aired on 9NEWS this morning. You can see the story here. We invite all PCK families to stop by and take a look the beautiful space we now proudly call the Preschool Outdoor Classroom.
