From The Director
I have a special request…in the hustle and bustle of this busy time of year, would you take a few minutes to nominate a PCK staff member for an Apple Award? Every year the district, including all the charter schools, come together to recognize the talented and hard working teachers and support staff within our schools. It is an uplifting evening for anyone who works in education to hear the stories behind many of the caring and dedicated teachers across our district. I may be a bit biased (okay, I’m extremely biased), but I think we have MANY truly gifted and amazing teachers here at PCK. It would mean so much to them to receive a nomination for this annual recognition award, so don’t be shy! It just takes a few minutes to let someone know how much you appreciate what they do, or have done, for a child. If your child has a special teacher, or if someone on staff has made a difference for them at some point in time, please consider sharing your thoughts via a nomination. This year’s process is completely different, and everything is happening online.
To nominate a PCK teacher or support staff member, please use this link: www.foundationdcs.org/nominate
Nominations are evaluated by teams across the district, and are typically judged by the amount of detail provided. For example, a nomination that says, “I nominate Mr./Mrs. XYZ because he/she is so nice,” probably won’t score as high as a nomination that provides specific examples of how a particular teacher made a difference.
I know this is a busy time of year, and I almost hate to ask you to add another item to your long list of holiday To Do’s, but sometimes the greatest gift we can give someone is to let them know how much we appreciate them or something specific they have done. I hope you will consider giving someone on the PCK staff the gift of your nomination. Thank you!
A Note From The Foundation At PCK
Tomorrow concludes our Annual Giving Campaign and we want to thank you all so much for your generous support and donations towards an Elementary Science Lab. We can’t wait to see this vision take shape!
Just a reminder that all families who donate through tomorrow will be entered into a drawing for a designated parking spot for one month.
Please remember to check with your employers to see if they match your contributions throughout the year. You can find employers who match donations by clicking below:

Coming Soon – My School Bucks
In the near future, when you click on the PCK Webstore to make a purchase you will see something new. We are joining DCSD in transitioning from RevTrak to My School Bucks for processing payments on things like field trip fees, lunch beverage cards, after-school activities, athletics, and more.
You will need to create a My School Bucks account (unless you already have an account for a student in a neighborhood school) using your student’s name and either birthday or student ID number.
PLEASE CONTINUE ORDERING LUNCHES THROUGH WHOLESOME FOOD SERVICES, NOT MY SCHOOL BUCKS. You will see an option for “Meal Accounts” in My School Bucks, but this is only for schools using DCSD Nutrition Services for their lunch provider. PCK only uses Wholesome Food Services, so lunches must be ordered through them directly.
We will send you an email when we make the official transition to My School Bucks, so keep an eye on your in-box.
Pizza Is Coming!
Wholesome Foods Services will be adding California Pizza Kitchen to their vendor list every other Thursday beginning in January. Please take a look at their menu options already listed on the January calendar to see what is available.
Save The Date For Your Student’s Holiday Concert
‘Tis the season for our Music Department’s annual holiday concerts. All parents are invited, and you won’t want to miss this special tradition.
Concert Attire: Students may dress up in their festive holiday attire, or may wear their uniforms to all of the concerts.
Parking Considerations: Because parking is limited at PCK, carpooling is always encouraged. Additional parking is available in the lot on Center Park Loop, as well around the loop. Please, do not park in the neighborhood, in the townhouse complex adjacent to PCK, or on Centennial Drive at any time. Parking for after-school concerts (4:15 pm start times) will be available after 3:45. Please do not arrive before 3:45 since we will still be running carpool through both lots.
Middle School Band – December 13th at 2:15pm
3rd Grade – December 14th at 2:15pm
4th Grade – December 14th at 4:15pm

Thank You For Your Generosity
Our National Junior Honor Society had a busy fall season, leading PCK in several community service projects. First, they collected food for the Be About Bliss campaign. Be About Bliss’ goal is to provide a “winter break food kit” for every student at Crawford Elementary and Boston P-8 in Aurora, Colorado so the kids can enjoy the holidays without worrying when they will get their next meal. Thousands of items were donated to Be About Bliss to help them achieve their goal.
Also, the 7th grade NJHS team collected Coats for Colorado. Generous donations from the PCK community allowed us to take 150 coats to Dependable Cleaners to be cleaned and distributed throughout Colorado by the 9News team. Great job 7th grade, and thank you PCK families!
Nominate An Outstanding Teacher/Staff Member For The NEW Apple Awards
DCSD recognizes exceptional teachers and staff members across the District with the Apple Awards. This year there is a new, easier nomination process, and a celebration for the nominees that honors their hard work and achievement in a fun way. Get the details on the new process here. You can nominate a PCK teacher or staff member who has made a difference in your child’s life at www.foundationdcs.org/nominate until January 11, 2019.
The next PTA meeting is December 11 at 6:30pm. All are welcome.
Did You Know…
PCK has six No Homework Nights this year to allow extra time for families to connect and enjoy time together during the school week. We hope your family had a chance to enjoy dinner together and play a game or do another fun activity on this week’s No Homework Night.
